“I spent most of my time in college accumulating titles and executive board positions in a selective business fraternity.
During my free moments, I was continuously going through my Snapchat to see the girls that I met at the bars and see who was viewing my Instagram story to convince myself that I have value.
My drive in life was the fear of being mediocre.
My senior year, I was offered an impressive, high salary job to sell research to executives that came with a downtown office.”
BUT...during Josh’s junior year, he started to get involved in Cru.
And he realized that he was trying to meet his needs for significance in the wrong places and he was beginning to discover a new life of real importance.
Josh’s experience of Christ became so rich that he eventually felt called to intern with Cru...which meant that he had to turn down the high paying job offer.
“I went from a corporate office to picnic tables.”
As a result, Josh spent the rest of his last semester answering the question:
“Why would you do that?!?”
Josh is finishing his internship with Cru and is now transitioning.
“I’m still going into the same career, but my reasons for doing so are completely different now. It’s not about what I’m going into; it’s about my ‘why’.”
In a “take up your cross” moment, Josh was convinced of the goodness of God and decided to dedicate a year of his life to ministry (despite a lucrative job offer).
And Josh has no regrets.
Because Josh has been set free from trying to construct his own sense of value, he is now available to care for people and help others discover theirs—a truly rich life.
